Over the years, Dad's store made the Stockton Evening Record more than we would have liked. Sometimes Jean, Chris, or Julia were unfortunate enough to be at the store for the newsworthy event. For example, Chris was there for the incident described at center, which took place in 1952, just a few weeks before Julia was born. Chris held her age well even as a child: she looked 3, but she was actually 6!
